A recent death on the hospital wards becomes of interest to Dalgliesh, as he investigates the behavior of several of the nurses at Nightingale House. Masterson tells Dalgliesh that Dettinger recognized one of the senior nurses as Irmgard Grobel, a woman found guilty of murdering 122 Polish prisoners by lethal injection.
